Tardigrade Counselling
Counselling and Consultation Services
Tardigrade Counselling was inspired by a young person in my life who experienced the loss of a caregiver due to mental health. A few weeks later, they chose to celebrate their birthday and all came to support. I spotted a strange looking cake and wondered what it was. They told me it was a tardigrade, a unique microscopic animal that is built to survive under extreme conditions. I realized in that moment no matter what challenges arise in life, if this young person can find ways to overcome and persevere, so can I. And so can you.
Tardigrade Counselling is firmly rooted in resiliency at our core, we recognize everyone is fighting their own battle and everyone copes in their own ways. No matter the obstacles life has thrown your way, Tardigrade counselling will be by your side. It is our goal for you to discover your own unique strengths, gifts and talents, and instill on them in helping you find success in your journey.
About Me
My name is Jason (he/him) and I am a first-generation immigrant who made the move to this country at a very young age. I have personally experienced the challenges of being “different” and struggling to find my fit and sense of belonging from a very young age. These experiences shape a huge part of my therapeutic space in creating a sense of safety for all my clients. I am a social worker at heart and a passionate mental health therapist by profession. My approach is heavily rooted in an Empowerment and Strengths based framework with an always conscious Anti-oppressive and Critical Race lens.
I have over a decades' worth of experience working with children, young people and families in various environments, including community-based settings, child and youth mental health clinics and BC Children’s Hospital. I have supported those challenged with anxiety, stress, mood, crisis, relational difficulties, identity formation, grief, loss, substance use and exposure to a variety of other mental health diagnoses. In my workspaces I have always been sensitive to being trauma informed in my encounters and take a client-driven approach.
